That's so exciting. It's time to start planning! Most couples start with picking a venue. This establishes your wedding date, which makes it easier to book other vendors. Browse through our website and see if we are the right fit for you. Lastly, schedule a tour with us to experience what we have to offer.

What is included in the venue rental?

Each rental includes access to the ceremony site, indoor reception area, patio/porch area and bride and groom suite from 10 am to 10pm (12 hours). Rental also includes tables and chairs (for ceremony and reception) as well as white linens for round tables.  We also have various decor that can be used. Do you require event insurance?

Yes, we do require that you obtain and provide proof of insurance.  We require a minimum of $1 million in coverage and host liquor liability. This policy covers most lawsuits from your guests, bodily injuries for your guests, and property damage. It can be obtained online or through your homeowners policy.

What is the venue like in the extreme hot/cold?

Our venue is fully climate controlled. For hot weather, the venue is air conditioned alongside large ceiling fans to circulate air. The ceiling fans are also helpful for couples who would like the garage doors to be open.

For cold weather, the venue is equipped with heat as well as patio heaters to keep guests warm.

What is the plan for inclement weather?

Don't worry - we've got you "covered". During inclement weather, the ceremony can be held under our covered patio. If your guess count is less than 80, ceremony and reception can both be held inside the venue space (if you prefer).

When you choose to book with us and pick a date, we will send a contract and we require a booking fee (payment 1 of 3) to be paid to hold the date. The remainder is broken down into two payments and is defined within the contract.

Of course, you are welcome to send smaller, partial payments of any amount prior to the specified due date, so in effect creating your own payment plan on your own schedule.

How does catering and bartending work?

We believe that food is a big part of your wedding and we want you to have a choice in who you use. For this reason, we do not have a required vendor list however, vendors should be licensed and insured. All vendors (including caterers, photographers, DJ's, florists, etc) are hired directly by you.  Need recommendations? After booking, you will receive a list of our favorite vendors.

Due to Virginia ABC laws, we do not provide alcohol. The "Client" (host of the event) is responsible for purchasing alcohol and obtaining an ABC Banquet License which can be obtained online. The cost if $40 and the website is:

  https://www.abc.virginia.gov/licenses/val/definitions/banquet

If alcohol is being served, Harbor Creek Farms requires a licensed and insured bartending service to serve.

Yes, we are! Feel free to include your furry friend in your celebration! This requires prior approval as we make sure there no risks to other guests.

Are there nearby hotels and/or Airbnb's?

We currently do not offer onsite accommodations but being that we are right in the heart of Salem, there are plenty of nearby hotels and quite a few options for Airbnb's within minutes of the venue.

Can I hire a wedding planner even though a wedding coordinator is included?

Our wedding package includes a day-of coordinator that will handle your meetings, timeline, and all coordinating on the day of your wedding. However, if you would like a full wedding planner, that is absolutely ok too. We can offer a few recommendations.

Are there any restrictions on decorating?

You can customize Harbor Creek to your hearts desire provided that any existing decor or the property is not damaged in the process. All candles must be contained or enclosed in glass.  We ask that you not use permanent glue or nails. Our policy is simple,  what you put up must come back down.

When is my rehearsal?

For Saturday weddings, rehearsals are held on Friday afternoon, subject to availability. We offer a 3 hour time slot, 2pm - 5pm. Traditionally, this time is used for 2 hours for decorating/set-up and the last hour is for the  rehearsal in which our coordinator will facilitate.   We do not allow food during this time. Previous couples have made dining reservations at a nearby restaurant after leaving the rehearsal for a "rehearsal dinner".

Absolutely, wedding days are long and it is important for you an your wedding party to be fed. You can bring in food or have it delivered to the venue.
